Housing Assignment

Eligiblity

Aggie Village Apartments are available for new undergraduate students (over 21 years old), continuing undergraduate students, transfer students, and graduate students.

Graduate & Family Apartments (Aggie Village Family, International House, University Village 1500, 1600, & 1700) are prioritized for graduate students and undergraduate students who are at least 21 years old for an assignment in the Graduate & Family Apartments (though any student may apply). Limited transitional housing may also be available for post-doctoral fellows, visiting scholars, faculty, and staff. More information about eligibility for post-doctoral fellows, visiting scholars, faculty, and staff can be found here.

Undergraduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters. Graduate students must be registered for a minimum of one credit hour  during the fall and spring semesters. Courses taken as Continuing Education or CSU Online courses do not count towards the required minimums listed above. Students must be registered in a Colorado State University residential undergraduate or graduate degree program as a degree-seeking student. Graduate students may be registered for Continuous Registration for a maximum of 4 terms (fall and spring semesters). Under limited circumstances, Housing and Dining Services may accept documentation of student status from an appropriate academic department, advisor, or similar resource as determined by the University. Residents do not have to be registered for summer classes, but must register for the following fall semester to maintain residency in their apartment during the summer term.

Undergraduate students who are required to live in the residence halls under the First Year Living Requirement are not eligible to live in the University Apartments. CSU requires that all newly admitted first-year students (Admissions Type “New”) and transfer students with fewer than 15 post-high school credits, who are single, under 21 years of age, and not living with their parents in the Fort Collins area, live in the University residence halls for the first two consecutive terms of their attendance. Credits taken concurrently with high school and/or credits attained through Advanced Placement (AP) do not apply toward living experience.

Housing in the University Apartments is only offered for Post-Doctoral Fellows, Visiting Scholars, Faculty, and Staff on a space-available basis for one lease year or the balance remaining, ending when the lease concludes on May 31 of each year. All Post-Doctoral Fellows, Visiting Scholars, Faculty, and Staff are required to vacate their assigned apartment at the conclusion of the lease and/or when their University employment ends (whichever comes first). Lease renewal is not offered for Post-Doctoral Fellows, Visiting Scholars, Faculty, or Staff.

Roommate Responsibilities

Housing & Dining Services requires all roommates to respect the rights of one another. Food, drink, and social practices may not be dictated by roommates. To maintain compatibility and respect for one another, communication, consideration, and sharing responsibilities are required.

Roommates should share equally in maintaining and cleaning the apartment. Roommates must share cleaning responsibilities when one or both plan to vacate. To exchange bedrooms after a roommate vacates, follow the procedures outlined in the University Apartments Vacating & Cleaning Procedures online.

Should conflicts occur and roommates be unable to respectfully determine an outcome among one another, staff in the apartment community or other appropriate resources should be contacted for assistance.

Should a resident wish to change apartments due to an ongoing conflict, they must submit an apartment transfer request via the CSU Housing Portal. Once submitted, the request will be reviewed by a Residential Coordinator. Students may receive outreach from a Residential Coordinator or Conflict Resolution Services to discuss next steps. If the request is related to a roommate conflict, participation in the conflict resolution process will be required before an apartment change will be considered.

Rent Payment

Monthly rental payments are due on the 10th of each month. Payments received after the 10th day of the month are considered late and late fee assessments will be made by the Office of Accounts Receivable.

Any questions regarding late payments should be addressed at the Accounts Receivable Office, 6015 Campus Delivery, 555 S. Howes St., 1st floor. Questions regarding rent charges may be directed by email to: housing@colostate.edu or by phone, by calling 970-491-4719.

Disability Accommodation

Housing accommodations are available for students with disabilities. Students should contact the Student Disability Center to determine the need and availability of resources.

For staff accommodations, contact the Office of Equal Opportunity.

Apartment Transfers

After checking into their assigned apartment, residents wishing to transfer to another apartment (or into another bedroom in the same apartment) should submit an Apartment Transfer Request through the Housing Portal.

Apartment transfers are generally available from mid-September to mid-April only. These transfers are subject to a $150 charge to cover administrative costs as well as turnover cleaning.

Apartment transfers may be requested to meet the requested apartment complex/unit type, for changes in family arrangement, and for roommate/neighbor conflicts. Apartment transfers are only granted as space becomes available, and an apartment transfer is not guaranteed.

In shared apartments, residents are only allowed to occupy their assigned bedroom and may not occupy other bedrooms in the assigned apartment. Residents who desire to transfer between bedrooms in the same apartment must submit an Apartment Transfer Request and requests are subject to approval. Residents may not move from one apartment space to another without approval. Failure to follow this policy may result in additional charges to your CSU student account and may be considered a violation of the Lease Agreement.

Vacate Procedures

Leases may be terminated by the Principal Resident only by completing the online Intent to Vacate form on the CSU Housing Portal. This form gives the University written notice of the Resident’s intent to vacate.

Notice must be filed at least thirty (30) days in advance of vacating the apartment.

If a resident terminates their Lease, the Resident may be liable for one month’s rent (30 days) and a contract breakage charge of up to $1,500.

Failure to vacate on the date indicated will result in a minimum $150 improper check-out charge and assessment of daily rent. The resident will also be held responsible for all costs associated with a delayed checkout, including, but not limited to, lock changes and urgent cleaning.

Extensions and exceptions to your vacate date must be approved in writing and may be submitted by email to University Housing: housing@colostate.edu.

At the close of each semester, any graduating Resident and those Residents not continuing at the University MUST VACATE the Premises on or before the last day of the month at the end of the Term, specifically, December 31 for Fall, May 31 for Spring, and August 31 for Summer. Residents should check their CSU email address, the Housing Portal, and the Housing & Dining Services website for more information.  For Aggie Village residents, the date required to vacate the space is the Monday after the conclusion of the semester in which the student graduated.

More information can be found on the Vacate Procedures page.

Reassignment

The University reserves the right to make reassignments and temporary assignments, or accommodations, as considered necessary. Apartment or bedroom changes may not be made without the written approval of Housing & Dining Services Staff. The Resident agrees to follow any disciplinary actions by University staff, including reassignment of room, apartment, or building.
