I pledge to complete Eco Actions and make my campus more sustainable by conserving energy and resources.

I am doing, or pledge to do the following actions:

Electricity and Electronics

Turn off lights and any electronics in rooms that are not in use and overnight (3 points)

Recycle your e-waste (CFL’s, printer cartridges, and batteries) through the Techno Trash bins located in your resident hall’s lobby (2 points)

Use LED lights in personal lamps instead of regular bulbs (3 points)

Install power strips for all electronic equipment in your room and turn off those strips during the night and when not is use (3 points)

Water

Aim to take shorter showers (shoot for 5 minutes) (2 points)

Turn off water when you’re brushing teeth, scrubbing hands and shaving (1 point)

Only do laundry in full loads and use cold water (2 points)

Reuse water for other activities when possible – for example, water your plants with non-potable water (1 point)

Restrain for buying bottled water; use your reusable bottle at many of our water bottle stations (1 point)

Food

Learn where your nearest composting bin is located and compost all items that can be composted (2 points)

Participate in an Environmental Eats event at the Corbett Community Kitchen (3 points)

Watch videos of our living labs, the on-campus lettuce operations, and Foothills campus composting facility. (3 points)

Invest in a reusable coffee mug and food storage containers instead of using disposables (1 point)

Use a reusable cutlery set instead of disposal cutlery from the dining halls (3 points)

Products

Purchase fair trade products such as the Equal Exchange chocolate from the two dining express centers (Durrell and Ram’s Horn) (2 points)

Mend or repair clothing that are still in good condition, instead of throwing it away (2 points)

Donate unwanted items instead of throwing it away – or give to a friend (3 points)

Be thrifty! Shop at thrift stores for second hand items and clothing (4 points)

Purchase products made with recycled or organic content, and support local businesses when possible (2 points)

Printing

If you have your own printer, set the default to double-sided printing (2 points)

Recycle all your paper – remember, neon cannot be recycled! (2 points)

Save one-sided paper for use as scratch paper (1 point)

Only print what you must – for example, read your course syllabi online (2 points)

Print multiple pages on a single page – for example, print multiple powerpoint slides on a single page (2 points)

Reusing and Recycling

Invest in a reusable metal straw instead of using plastic straws (2 points)

Avoid the use of dryer sheets, try reusable dryer balls (3 points)

If you go out shopping, bring your own reusable bags! (2 points)

Play the zero-waste game (zerowastegame.colostate.edu) and learn about CSU’s waste streams (waste, recycling, compost, electronics) (3 points)

Education/Communication

Tell 5 friends about this Eco Actions campaign (5 points)

Learn how to sustainably launder your clothing and apply it to your laundry routine (4 points)

Share green tips from this pledge at a residence hall meeting (2 points)

Get involved in sustainability through several student organizations (2 points)

Attend sustainability events such as Earth Week, Zero-Waste events, guest lectures or student organization events (3 points)

Participate in CSU's Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging Module for students (4 points)

Transportation

Walk, bike, longboard, or ride a scooter to class (3 points)

Attend an education class at The Spoke in Laurel Village Pavilion (3 points)

Ride TransFort or take the MAX to get around town once a week – buses are free with your CSU student ID (3 points)

Attend a Smart Cycling class (4 points)

Participate in the online Transportation Education Module “CSU Moves” (4 points)
