By Christie Mathews, Director, Projects & Outreach
Teresa Metzger and I have embarked on a new journey through the newly identified opportunities in University Housing Projects & Outreach! We are in the process of building out this new department within HDS made up of existing and new initiatives.
Projects and Outreach include many areas and initiatives. Some of these include; Teresa is working with Admissions and other campus partners on campus visits. She coordinates all aspects of student recruitment tours, peer institution visits, and any new emerging campus visit needs for University Housing. This includes coordinating with partners in HDS and across campus, presentation delivery, and any additional needs of the group. Teresa is also working with the Fostering Success program to provide continuity in supporting these students.
Together Teresa and I are reaching out to the Fort Collins, Larimer County, and Poudre School District to solidify relationships, programs and assistance for all of our residents in University Housing. Some of these initiatives include; health screenings, healthy eating, Early Childhood Education programs, school age children’s needs, PSD transportation/busing, among many others. New opportunities are constantly emerging.
In regard to University Housing Projects, it is my role to provide leadership for University Housing and in partnership with Directors Staff and University Housing Central Staff on all renovations, new construction, or facilities needs that impact our residents experience as well as cultivating vision for new projects, like Meridian Village. What this means is that I am responsible for representing the best interests of our students and their families throughout the course of any major project, looking at our buildings from the lens of the people living there. In this role I will work closely with HDS Facilities as they continue to lead projects.
Like any new position or role, there is a steep learning curve for us in addition to important partnerships we are developing to make this initiative successful. I am still working closely with John Malsam on how we integrate day to day operations (his responsibility) with my new projects role. I am also touring all of our residential communities to begin to better understand our residents’ experiences in our buildings. Teresa is partnering with Amanda Daul, folks in CES and Dining on many of the University Housing initiatives she is involved in. If you have questions about who to work with on a particular project or event, please reach out to Teresa or me. Please also check out the weekly area reports in the bulletin for more details on the work we are doing. We are both excited about these new opportunities and look forward to working with you all in new meaningful ways!
